Volvo Cars New Zealand has confirmed pricing for its first fully electric SUVs; the traditionally shaped XC40 Recharge and the C40 Recharge coupe.
The XC40 Recharge will be sold locally in two iterations; P6 single motor and P8 dual motor. The P6 gets a 69kWh battery with a range of up to 450km, while the dual-motor variant mates all-wheel drive to a larger 78kWh battery capable of 500km, according to NEDC testing.
The XC40 Recharge P6 will be priced from $83,900 plus on-road costs, and the P8 will be priced from $97,700 plus on-road costs.
The C40 Recharge has an identical trim-level format, offered in New Zealand in either front-wheel drive P6 single motor guise or all-wheel drive P8 dual-motor guise. The P8 once again includes a both sizes of batteries, with range
The C40 Recharge P6 is priced from $85,900, and the P8 from $100,900.
The pricing structure across the four models means none meet the $80,000 threshold for the Clean Car Discount, and therefore none can claim back the $8,625 rebate.
“We are looking forward to introducing New Zealand drivers to Volvo’s uniquely Scandinavian fully electric Recharge range,” says Volvo Cars New Zealand general manager Ben Montgomery.
“We are not surprised to see the 2022 allocation of these vehicles already sold out with all new orders taken from this point onwards aligned to 2023 vehicle arrivals.”
Along with detailing pricing for the two models, Volvo’s local arm also offered some insight into the standard spec available.
Each model comes with a Google and Android-developed infotainment system, which includes digital services in the form of Volvo On Call and AA roadside assist, plus built-in Google Maps and Google Assistant.
Each car comes with a four-year unlimited data plan, enabling over-the-air updates. This will be used to improve each car over time, with Volvo already stating that the duo is likely to gain improved electric range with a digital update in the future.
Volvo claims that demand for the two models has already been strong, stating that “New Zealand customers are encouraged to secure a vehicle with urgency due to strong customer demand on strictly limited 2022 vehicle deliveries”.
