Toyota New Zealand has issued a recall for its popular Yaris Hybrid over an issue that can potentially result in the hybrid system in certain vehicles shutting down.
The recall affects some models from 2019 and 2020, with Toyota stressing that not all vehicles from the two model years are impacted.
The recall explains that a software issue can trigger a ‘failsafe’ driving mode when drivers accelerate suddenly.
“Due to an improper programming, there is a possibility that the vehicle will not enter a failsafe driving mode if a temporary slip occurs in the input damper of the hybrid transaxle during sudden acceleration and warning lights are illuminated,” says the notice.
“If this were to occur, the hybrid system will shut down.”
Toyota New Zealand has not issued any similar recalls for any of its other hybrid models.
“As an owner of an involved vehicle, you will be contacted by registered letter requesting you to contact your nearest authorised Toyota Store to arrange a convenient time to have the repairs completed at no cost,” the notice adds.
“Alternatively, contact Toyota’s Customer Dialogue Centre to discuss.”
