Car share service Mevo has launched its Virtual Fleet subscription and added Teslas to its fleet.
Businesses Beca, BioGro, and Jerram Tocker Barron Architects are among the first companies to subscribe to this fleet service and will have access to the Mevo network, including Tesla Model 3s in Wellington and Hamilton, with Auckland launching soon.
Businesses can sign up to a Virtual Fleet subscription now to access these Teslas which will be available for public use from February.
Every new Virtual Fleet subscription supports the addition of a new BEV to the Mevo network, offering an innovative way for organisations to better service their vehicle needs, while lowering their environmental impact.
With support from the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority’s (EECA) Low Emissions Transport Fund, Mevo has committed to delivering 120 battery electric vehicles (BEVs), starting with the Tesla Model 3.
Virtual Fleets is a revolutionary way for businesses to meet their vehicle requirements while overcoming traditional fleet inefficiencies, with traditional fleets sitting unused for most of the time, Mevo says.
“Tesla has been paving the way for the future of the automotive industry, so being able to incorporate their vehicles into our new Virtual Fleet subscription is a key milestone for us as it offers a more sustainable way for businesses to travel,” Mevo founding director and chief executive Erik Zydervelt says.
“For businesses wanting to better gauge how this could work, the virtual fleet model is a sea change moment, similar to the transition from using traditional servers in their office, to cloud computing as it gives them more value and fewer issues and admin.
“Our virtual fleet does the same thing for vehicles – the use of cars whenever you need them but you only pay for the time your team is using them, not for them to sit around unused as is the case with current fleets.”
Beca advisory group director Amelia Linzey says it’s a great opportunity for Beca to join forces with Mevo.
“As part of our business commitment to reduce our carbon footprint, we’ve been looking at ways to minimise the number of vehicles needed within our company,” she explains.
“We truly felt that the alignment of values between Beca and Mevo was the right fit for us to utilise in both Wellington and Hamilton, and we can’t wait to grow with them as they expand throughout other New Zealand locations.”
EECA transport manager Richard Briggs says while business travel is often unavoidable, maintaining a fleet can be costly and inefficient.
“Giving organisations a new fully electric way to ensure their staff can get around helps demonstrate how we can cut our transport emissions, which is critical to tackling climate change.”
Mevo’s Virtual BEV Fleet options for corporate customers include anytime subscription ($800 plus GST a month), enough credit for eight days of Tesla Model 3 rental per month, available to be used anytime, including nights and weekends, and business subscription ($950 plus GST a month), enough credit for 20 days of Tesla Model 3 rental per month, and available during weekday business hours 8am to 6pm.
