Nissan’s local arm has announced that its updated X-Trail is set to make its local debut in late 2022, as it aims to do battle with the likes of the Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5.
The all-new model adds to the continuity of the X-Trail nameplate, which has been offered in New Zealand for more than two decades.
“The Nissan X-Trail has been a family favourite in New Zealand for more than 20 years, with more than 21,000 vehicles sold since its launch here in 2001,” says Nissan New Zealand Managing Director Ben Hamilton.
“That’s an impressive legacy to protect, and it’s one we take very seriously. Which is why the all-new X-Trail introduces a bold new look, incredible technology and safety features, and even more capability, all while still sticking true to its heritage of unlocking fun and adventure for Kiwi families.”
Though Nissan New Zealand has yet to offer specifics regarding the model’s specifications or pricing (these elements set to be announced closer to launch), it’s expected that the model will form part of Nissan’s electrified e-Power line-up.
Nissan’s e-Power models utilise a powertrain that’s mostly electric, but includes a petrol generator. The e-Power version of the new Qashqai has already been confirmed for our market, with its arrival time also scheduled for late 2022.
Nissan has yet to announce any of the X-Trail e-Power’s key numbers overseas.
Beyond the e-Power, the X-Trail is offered in other markets with a revised version of the current model’s 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. It gets 8kW more power and 8Nm more torque in the new X-Trail, with output rated at 135kW/245Nm.
Nissan boasts that the all-new X-Trail will be the brand’s “most advanced” and “most capable” SUV yet, thanks to its all-new underpinnings and numerous tech improvements.
In its statement, it boasts that the X-Trail’s four-wheel drive system features a quicker decoupling system and is paired to five different drive modes.
The statement also notes that the X-Trail will come with Nissan’s Intelligent Mobility technology. This means the door is open for the brand to release the model locally with its semi-autonomous ProPilot driver assistance system.
