A five-star Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) rating been given to the RWD Select and AWD Premium variants of the Ford Mustang Mach-e.
ANCAP notes the Mach-e’s safety rating will be of particular interest to Kiwi consumers, as the battery electric vehicle (BEV) will be delivered to New Zealand customers early next year.
The rating applies to all New Zealand variants except the GT AWD, it adds.
Full points were scored for protection offered to the driver in the side impact and oblique pole tests, as well as child occupants in the side impact and frontal offset tests, says ANCAP.
“The front structure of the Mustang Mach-e presented a relatively high risk to occupants of an oncoming vehicle, and a 3.45 point penalty (out of 4.00 points) was applied.
“Examining its collision avoidance capability, the Mustang Mach-e offered good performance for its lane-keeping and autonomous emergency braking ability, however its AEB Backover and driver fatigue systems do not default ‘ON’ at the start of each journey so points were not awarded in these areas,” ANCAP explains.
It notes that dual frontal, side chest-protecting and side head-protecting (curtain) airbags are standard, along with a centre airbag which provides added protection to front seat occupants in side impact crashes and a driver knee airbag.
Other standard equipment includes autonomous emergency braking (car-to-car, vulnerable road user, junction assist and backover) as well as a lane support system with lane keep assist, lane departure warning, emergency lane keeping and an advanced speed assistance system.
ANCAP says installation of child restraints in the second-row centre seating position is not recommended as there is no top tether anchorage.
New Zealand reservations for the Mustang Mach-e opened in September and Ford New Zealand says keen interest is being shown, particularly with two demonstration models on show at the recent National Fieldays.
