The Ateco Group which distributes the Alfa-Romeo brand in New Zealand has confirmed that a plug-in hybrid version of the Tonale SUV will arrive in 2023 but timing and retail pricing are yet to be confirmed.
The Tonale Veloce Plug-in Hybrid Q4 is reputedly the most efficient Alfa-Romeo model yet produced.
It combines a 132kW, 1.3L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission which provides traction to the front axle, with an electric motor capable of supplying 90kW of max peak power and 250Nm of torque to the rear axle.
A 306-volt, 15.5kWh lithium-ion battery supplies an electric range of 60km while tail pipe C02 emissions are quoted at 34g/km. The 208kW Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 is capable of reaching 0 to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds.
The acceleration is enhanced by the e-AWD system: the instantaneous deployment of 100% of available torque from the electric motor makes the rear axle respond as soon as the driver’s foot presses on the throttle according to Alfa-Romeo.
New applications of the traditional Alfa Romeo drive modes: Advanced Efficiency, Natural, Dynamic and ESC OFF are applied in this Tonale variant. A regenerative braking system recovers energy during passive driving phases (such as deceleration of light braking) in all driving modes. Additionally, the system switches in Natural mode when the battery reaches the minimum charge level regardless of the selected mode.
Equipped with a 7.4kW AC on board charger and a Type 2 Charging Port, that enables domestic AC charging and public AC charging, it takes less than 2.5 hours to fully charge the battery when the 7.4kW onboard charger is in use.
