Growing enthusiasm for the Mini Electric Hatch demonstrated worldwide was echoed in New Zealand where its sales increased 191% in 2022 compared with 2021.
In its British homeland, the premium brand set a new record with more than 46,000 registrations.
Mini registered 292,923 new models worldwide last year, meaning the Mini Cooper SE already accounts for 22% of total sales.
The boom in demand for electrified Mini vehicles continued into 2022.
With a 25.5% increase in sales compared with 2021 and 43,744 units sold worldwide, the Mini Electric Hatch is the most popular Mini model.
Electrification continues to resonate with the New Zealand market with 271 Mini Electric Hatches sold in 2022.
The fully electric model accounts for about one in three Minis sold in New Zealand or 60.9% of combined three-door and five-door hatch sales.
Additionally, combined electric and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sales made up 54.8% of total Mini 2022 sales.
Purely electric vehicles account for 15% of total global sales and have risen again in Europe with more than 27,000 units of the Mini Electric sold in 2022.
Germany, France and the UK in particular recorded strong sales growth for it, while the electric Mini three-door recorded the largest share of total sales in Scandinavia, at 45%.
In 2022, the electric Mini Cooper SE launched in Korea.
