Hyundai NZ says the forthcoming hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) versions of its best-selling Tuscon SUV, will further grow its popularity in the fleet market.
The Tucson Hybrid arrives in the third quarter and the Tucson PHEV will follow in the fourth quarter of 2022. Prices start from $61,990 with a Clean Car rebate of up to $2,900.
“The Tucson Hybrid and PHEV are important players for Hyundai in our ongoing drive to lower the emissions of our vehicles,” Hyundai New Zealand passenger cars general manager Chris Blair says.
“The launch of the Tucson Hybrid range will further grow its popularity within the key fleet markets with its combination of high specifications, low or zero-emissions capability and clean car rebates on certain variants.
“This vehicle will fulfil the requirements of many Kiwis who are looking for a versatile and economical medium-sized SUV, capable of doing the daily chores whilst having the size and performance to do the job out on the open road,” Blair says.
Hyundai claims combined fuel economy from 4.9l/100km for the Tucson Hybrid and an electric only range of 56km for the Tucson PHEV.
Both the Hybrid and PHEV utilise a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol (T-GDI) engine found in the non-electrified Tucson models.
Combined, the petrol engine and electric motor deliver 169 kW in the Hybrid and 195 kW in the PHEV and 350 Nm maximum torque. The PHEV has an electric-only range of up to 56km.
The Tucson Hybrid and PHEV bring a number of technical changes, including active aerodynamics with an Active Air Flap that adjusts air intake depending on the engine coolant temperature, vehicle speed, and more, in order to minimise air resistance and maximise fuel efficiency.
The Tucson Hybrid is available with the option of both 2WD and AWD whilst the PHEV is exclusively AWD. With Hyundai HTRAC four-wheel drive technology and a Terrain Mode selector allows for safe driving on challenging terrain.
Two trims are available on both models, Entry and Elite. Priced from $61,990, the Tucson Entry Hybrid specification includes 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, and 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system with wireless smartphone pairing.
The Elite specification starts from $66,990 and adds 19-inch wheels, a 10.25-inch driver’s supervision instrument cluster, leather seat facings, and heated front and rear seats amongst other features.
Safety features such as lane keeping assist, forward collision avoidance, blind-spot collision avoidance, smart cruise control with stop and go, and safe exit assist are standard on all Tucson models.
The Tucson Hybrid and PHEV maintains the same range of colours as the regular Tucson range, with the exception of Shadow Gray. This includes a range of metallic and pearls.
All-new Hybrid and PHEV models come with Hyundai’s 3-year 100,000 km warranty, 8-year 160,000 km high voltage battery warranty, roadside assistance package, and 10-year anti corrosion warranty.
