Polestar 2 EVs are now available across Hertz’s New Zealand fleet, with travellers able to book at Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington.
The move comes as part of Hertz’s commitment to becoming the preeminent EV car rental brand with one of the largest EV rental fleets in the world.
The local fleet expansion follows the announcement of Hertz’s partnership with Polestar, committing to onboarding 65,000 Polestar vehicles to its global fleet during the next five years.
Hertz added the Polestar 2 to its Australian fleet in August this year.
“We are excited to add this first delivery of Polestar 2 vehicles to our fleet, as we continue to expand our EV offering on New Zealand shores,” says Hertz APAC vice president Eoin MacNeill.
With consumers’ increasing demand for more sustainable travel options, Hertz says it continues to meet customers’ wants and needs by providing alternative modes of transport.
“Our partnership with Polestar gives customers the opportunity to drive the latest in automotive technology, while prioritising more sustainable travel through expanding our range of eco-conscious options within our fleet,” MacNeill adds.
“More so, we’re also providing New Zealand customers with the ability to become acquainted with an EV without having to make the financial commitment to buy one.”
Polestar New Zealand brand manager Bruce Fowler says Polestar is committed to accelerating the move to electric mobility.
In addition to the Polestar partnership, Hertz has recently announced further initiatives in its global mission to electrify its fleet.
In September, Hertz revealed plans to order up to 175,000 EVs from GM over the next five years, along with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the development of a national network of EV charging stations in North America powered by BP Pulse.
