Dozens of Australian order holders for the BYD Atto 3 have taken to social media in outrage over what some are calling “extremely high” servicing costs – that’s not expected to be the case in New Zealand.
A list of minimal service requirements to keep the Atto 3 in good order has been sent to each BYD dealer around the country, as New Zealand has a franchise dealer model which is different to Australia, says BYD Auto NZ brand manager Warren Willmot.
He expects costs will be a lot less than in Australia, adding that each dealer sets its own charges.
“One dealer has something like servicing at three years for $990, but all dealers are separate (so costs vary),” says Willmot.
He says servicing costs will be competitive with other EV players and probably a fraction of the cost of servicing an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.
Warranties are generally aligned at six years/150,000km “bumper-to-bumper” and eight years/160,000km for the traction battery.
Willmot says some dealer service centres may change the BYD’s pollen filter annually, with emphasis on maintaining good condition of the EV.
More information can be gained from BYD Auto NZ’s website which includes a list of service agents, Willmot adding that details about panel repairers will be on it by September 30.
