First arriving on our shores in August, the Tesla Model Y has predictably been an enormous seller among both private buyers and fleets.
In regards to the latter, GO Rentals has announced itself as the first rental car firm to offer the Model Y to customers.
The company boasts that it has acquired “at least nine” Model Ys to its fleet, which already includes the Tesla Model 3
“As travel opens up and we head into Summer, we are pleased to be expanding our options of how locals and International visitors can enjoy traveling around the country, the Tesla Y is a phenomenal model to offer our customers,” says GO Rentals chief operating officer James Dalglish.
“There are plenty of advantages in opting for an EV – and not just to protect the planet. You don’t have to fill it up on return. Charging using the Tesla supercharger network is super-efficient. You can get from 20% to 80% in about 30mins if the battery is preconditioned.”
Those wanting to rent a Model Y can do so via Go Rentals’ Auckland Airport branch. By the end of the year Model Ys will also be available at all of its other locations around the country.
“We want a sustainable world. With more than 85 percent of the power in New Zealand being renewable energy, EVs are a fantastic option for the Kiwi public,” adds GO Rentals director John Osbourne.
“Over the long term the benefits to the country and the world are huge. Think of the foreign exchange the country will save by not buying all that oil from offshore.
“Rental car demand had been holding up particularly well in the domestic market, leading to rising rental costs since pre-COVID-19 times. […] Costs are increasingly up due to inflation, labour rates, vehicle ownership, right across the board.”
