BYD New Zealand is dropping the standard range Atto 3 SUV to create more showroom space.
The standard range model boasts the same specifications as the extended range variant, with the sole difference being its 50kWh battery compared to the 60kWh in the extended model.
The SUV has been selling at $58,990, a price that became less appealing since the long-range version is currently on special for $59,990.
For the runout phase, dealers are now offering the vehicle at $54,990.
BYD New Zealand’s brand manager Warren Willmot informed EVs and Beyond that the decision was made to free up showroom space for the forthcoming Dolphin and Seal models.
The Tachyon, a locally enhanced version of the extended range, remains available.
Willmot shared with EVs and Beyond his desire to introduce smaller battery EVs to New Zealand. However, demand, especially from fleet operators, has tilted towards larger battery models.
“While most individuals typically have short commutes, fleets have found the extra range advantageous in their shift to electric.”
