Audi New Zealand will rapidly expand its range of plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models alongside the fully electric Q4 e-tron in 2023.
A selection of pre-production models is now available for customers to view and test drive until October 4 across each Audi dealership nationwide, with a national roadshow underway.
The Audi TFSI e PHEV range and Q4 e-tron roadshow began at the Queenstown Motor Group and will make its way up the country stopping in Dunedin (August 17-20), Christchurch (August 22-25), Wellington (August 27-31), Palmerston North (September 2-6), Napier (September 8-12), Tauranga (September 19-22), Hamilton (September 14-17), and Auckland (September 30-October 4).
PHEV models on the roadshow include the A3 TFSI e, Q3 TFSI e and Q5 TFSI e.
The Q7 TFSI e and Q8 TSFI e will not appear on the roadshow but are expected to arrive with the range next year.
These models have been brought to New Zealand specifically for local evaluation and will not represent final New Zealand specification, with specs and pricing yet to be confirmed.
Audi New Zealand general manager Dean Sheed expects the models will sell out before they arrive next year.
“It has been seven years since we last launched a plug-in hybrid in New Zealand, and the market has changed considerably since then,” he explains.
“The vast range of vehicles will allow customers of all lifestyles to make a change towards a more sustainable way of living.”
The Q4 e-tron is fast becoming a global top seller, having a more compact size, progressive design, and the latest technology.
It has up to 528km range and is paired with quattro all-wheel drive technology and augmented reality heads up display.
The top-of-the-range Q4 50 e-tron quattro has two electric motors for the electric all-wheel drive, generating 220kW of power and able to sprint from zero to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds.
Kiwis drive less than 35km daily on average (38km in Auckland), so Audi PHEV customers can drive in full electric mode for their daily commute or use petrol power to venture further on weekends.
“The drive concept of the PHEVs provides great efficiency and lower running costs,” says Sheed.
“As a result, a large portion of everyday journeys can be covered on purely electric power and with zero local emissions.“
