Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) officials have launched a new-look website, with improved functionality for consumers searching for safety ratings.
The online changes include the addition of a ‘Help Me Choose’ function, allowing users to generate lists of vehicles recommended for them based on customisable parameters.
The site also now comes with the ability to search by brand, with ANCAP noting that the filtering process has been improved across the 830 vehicles listed on site.
Other consumer and stakeholder-led improvements include explanatory words, videos, and animations detailing what the different star ratings mean, how selected active safety technologies work, and more.
“Whether you’re an older driver looking to purchase a safe and small city run-about; a fleet manager needing to prioritise both safety and low emissions for your corporate fleet; a new parent wanting to provide your family with a safe ride large enough to accommodate the pram and the groceries; or a tradie needing to find a dual cab ute with the latest safety features, the new search tools available on the ANCAP website will present a list of safer options to meet your specific needs,” says ANCAP chief executive Carla Hoorweg.
“The ANCAP website is far more than just a platform to search for safety ratings. It provides a wealth of information allowing users to better understand vehicle safety features and learn what and how we test.”
The improvements come as consumer interest in vehicle safety grows on both sides of the Tasman.
“A lot has changed over the past few decades to enhance the safety of vehicles available in our market, and visitors to the ANCAP website can see just how far things have progressed as well as gain an insight into what will be incorporated into the ANCAP rating mix from 2023,” Hoorweg adds.
“The enhanced ANCAP website is a valuable resource for anyone in the market for a new car to make the safest vehicle choice they can by actively using ANCAP safety ratings to inform their purchasing decision.
“I’d encourage everyone to take a look at the new site to learn more about vehicle safety and use our ratings and information when making their next new car purchase.”
